UKIRT Integration Time Calculator
UKIRT INTEGRATION TIME CALCULATOR

Currently released for WFCAM; UFTI and UIST imaging will follow shortly. See appended release notes for information on special cases.

Release Notes

Usage

  1. Set up the calculator by selecting instrument, filter and sky brightness and seeing/aperture (or accepting the defaults, which are chosen sensibly).
  2. Perform the calculation by either (i) entering source brightness (if calculating exposure time or s/n) and entering a number in either the integration time or s/n fields (the result is then either s/n or integration time), or (ii) entering an integration time and s/n (in which case the result is the minimum source brightness required to obtain that s/n in that integration).

Known bugs

  1. The "extended source" calculation is not currently returning correct values.

WFCAM

  1. Short exposures in the narrow-band and Y and Z filters are not background limited. See the WFCAM user guide for details on background-limited exposures. The difference is accurately reflected here, in the sense that the readnoise dominance affects the reported sensitivity in these filters when short exposure times are used.
